INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE DIRECTIONS
The proper installation of
this propeller will go a long way toward eliminating operation problems. DO NOT let the propeller get key bound. This is insured by pushing the propeller up the shaft without the key in place. Mark the forward advance of the propeller on the shaft with a sharp pencil. Remove the propeller, install the key, and again slide the propeller on the shaft. It must go exactly to your pencil mark. Tighten the propeller nuts, firm but do not over torque.
The propeller is shipped
full of grease and ready for use. This initial packing will be adequate for 3-4 months of normal use. Your propeller can be repacked quite easily by a SCUBA diver underwater.
The procedure is really the same whether on Terra Firma or Underwater. Remove the 1/8" brass pipe plug from the side of the
casing; remove all the fittings from the end of a regular grease gun; match up the male threads on the grease gun with the female threads on the casing and go to it. You'll know when the casing is full.
What grease to use? If
your propeller is new and still tight use NLGI #0. If it is more than two years old use NLGI #1. If you have trouble finding either of these call us and we can send an order to you via UPS.
We are not very fussy about Soap base vs. synthetic base grease as long as it is stable in sea water.
Automobile chassis grease, NLGI #2, is too stiff and should be avoided. To check the viscosity of grease, touch the surface of the grease with your finger. The peak should drop back to a mound. If it levels out right off, the grease is too thin. If it stays in a peak like water pump grease, it is too thick.
